INSTRUCTOR NAME & BIO
MICHELE ADRIANSE

Michele Adrianse, Founder and Director of SATYA YOGA CENTER,  also known as Yoga with Michele, is pictured with one of her teachers and greatest inspirations - Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa (www.goldenbridgeyoga.com).

A Chicago native, Michele has been studying and teaching yoga since 1996.  She was certified through a 9 month extensive program at the Temple of Kriya Yoga in Chicago in May 2001.  After receiving her certification, she was invited to teach a class at the Temple of Kriya Yoga, which she humbly accepted.  Her teacher then invited her to become part of the Teacher Training Staff, and although greatly honored by that, Michele felt a stronger pull to the public, reaching out to her community and beyond, as well as to those less fortunate.  She taught yoga to the ill, the poor, the elderly, to anyone who needed it - often for free, or on a donation basis.

Michele teaches a blend of the courses she has taken over the last 14+ years.   Her teachings are strongly influenced by her experiences and training with some of the greatest Yoga Masters in the world such as Ana Forrest, Seane Corn, Rodney Yee & Colleen Saidman, Dharma Mittra, Aadil Palkhivala, Shiva Rea, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, David Life & Sharon Gannon, Saul David Raye, Jonny Kest, Paul Grilley (Yin/Yang Yoga), Shakta Kaur, Mari Winsor (Winsor Pilates), Marsha Wenig, Renu Sharma, Dr. Indu Arora, Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, as well as many others.  Michele explains that each of her teachers has helped her tap into her own inner power and beliefs, and not much can sway you once you believe in and find yourself.

Michele also trains at Moksha Yoga in Chicago (www.mokshayoga.com) with her friend, teacher and mentor, Lindsey Levin (www.lindseylevin.com), and craves practice with Daren Friesen when time allows.  Michele has been studying at Moksha Yoga exclusively since 2001.

In her spare time, Michele enjoys running (a racer, marathoner and trainer since 1993, although slowing down a bit these days!), and uses her own experiences and training of over 17 years of running teaching "Yoga for Runners" to Gazelle Sports Running Club.  Michele also teaches yoga at GVSU's Holland campus, and privately works with students of all levels and abilities.   Michele believes a teacher's study is never complete no matter how many certifications one holds, and therefore, takes as many workshops and trainings as she can.   This summer she will continue her studies with Seane Corn and Aadil Palkhivala.

For pure fun and relaxation, she retreats to the many beaches and woods in the area solo, or with her husband Tony and their five dogs, and savors the sunset from "this side" of the lake.  Michele and Tony journey out into the world at least once a year for fun and adventure, and last year's compass pointed to the Great Smoky Mountains where they climbed the tallest peak, hiked a bit of the Appalacian Trail, and ran into a 200 lb. black bear and a wild boar!  Michele loves adventure - she says "Bring it on!"

                    TONY ADRIANSE

Tony, Co-Director of Satya Yoga, leads the popular "Half-Priced Community Yoga" ($5) on Mondays at 6pm, Gentle Morning Vinyasa on Tuesdays at 9am, Power to Peaceful Yoga on Saturdays at 8:30am, and *donation* Yoga For Beginners / Intermediates on Sundays at 2pm.

Tony has been studying yoga for quite some time, and was inspired to teach after studying from Master Yoga Teachers Rodney Yee & Colleen Saidman, Seane Corn, David Life, Kino MacGregor, Desiree Rambaugh, Cyndi Lee, Daren Friesen, Jai Uttal, Krishna Das, and Aadil Palkhivala, founder of Purna Yoga.   It was his instant connection with Aadil and his teachings that led him down the path of Purna Yoga, "Yoga of the Heart."  After training with Aadil, Tony finally felt the connection to the type of teaching he has been yearning for, and has decided it's time to complete the Purna Yoga Teacher Training Certification (http://purnayoga.com/).   He will complete the training this fall at Moksha Yoga Center.

Tony enjoys a daily practice of pranayama, asana and study.  In his spare time, you'll find him running (training for his first marathon this fall!), biking, hiking, and traveling as much as possible.  A true Seva Yogi, Tony is the backbone of Satya Yoga Center ~ not much need for the limelight ~ but always keeping a watchful eye on our sacred space and all involved.

HERB HOSTER

Meditation will resume later this summer.  Dates to be advised.

We are very excited to welcome Temple of Kriya Yoga Certified Meditation Teacher Herb Hoster to the Satya Yoga family.

A lifelong resident of West Michigan, Herb was introduced to Vedic thought in the late 1970’s at the Vivekananda Monastery, in Ganges, MI, and was later initiated by Swami Bhashyananda of the Chicago Vedanta Society, and accompanied him on a pilgrimage to India in the mid 1980’s.  Of particular note in this pilgrimage was an opportunity to participate in the Kumba Mela event at Hardwar, an unforgettable event attended by many hundreds of thousands of fellow pilgrims.  As a disciple of Goswami Kriyananda of the Chicago Kriya Temple, Herb follows the path of mystical esoteric Kriya Yoga. Herb is a certified meditation instructor assisting others in opening up to inner silence and harmony.  Herb has been a supporter of Mother’s Trust, in Ganges, MI, since its inception and is a frequent speaker there.

INSTRUCTOR NAME & BIO

MONIKA KRIMENDAHL

The literal translation of Yoga Nidra is Yogic Sleep.  It is an ancient form of meditation that will take you into the deepest levels of relaxation while still remaining fully aware.  When practicing Yoga Nidra, your brainwaves drop into the alpha and theta state.  As you progressively enter deeper and subtler brain waves, you become more relaxed, integrated, expansive and present.  Eventually, you completely shift out of identification with the body, mind and ego.  In this deep state beyond ordinary waking consciousness, you naturally re-align with spirit, allowing you to effortlessly disengage from restrictive physical, mental and emotional patterning.  Here, you are free to create a life that is an expression of higher consciousness, rather than acquired conditioning.  Yoga Nidra brings an incredible calmness, quietness and clarity.  Join Monika and Jeannette in what has quickly become one of our favorite classes!

Classes are held on Mondays at 7:30.  Throughout the month, we will be offering a discounted class fee of $5.

INSTRUCTOR NAME & BIO

STACY VAN HOWE

In 1999, as an engineer in the US Coast Guard, Stacy was relocated from Norfolk, VA to Grand Haven, MI.  Newly married, and hoping to meet new people, she signed up for her first yoga class.  Needless to say, she was hooked and, over the next ten years, continued exploring many different yoga styles, including Vinyasa, Pre-Natal, Ashtanga, and Anusara.

In 2008, Stacy began the transition from practing yoga, to studying yoga.  The physical practice had always been a great way to relieve stress and keep in good physical health, but she now saw yoga as the link to all areas of her life for which she felt great passion and concern:  natural health and nutrition, organic living, and connecting to her spiritual path.  Yoga became a way she wanted to live her life, not just an hour a day to decompress.

This spring, Stacy attended teacher training with Katherine Lucas's Karma Yoga Shala, and is working toward her Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (200hr RYT) certification.  Stacy also studied with Kino MacGregor this fall, and said her pure presence was 'amazing' and brought so much awareness to both her practice and teaching.

Outside the yoga studio, you can find Stacy hanging out with her husband, Josh, and their two sons, Jasper and Fletcher.  She loves traveling, reading, and doing anything on the water.

Join Stacy on Tuesdays at 6:00pm for Immunity Boost / Restorative Yoga, Wednesdays at 10:00am for Ashtanga Yoga for All Levels, and Thursdays at 9am for Gentle Vinyasa Flow.
